Aerial Arts is a broad term used to categorize many forms of aerial fitness. Our Ariel Arts fitness elements will include aerial silks, hammock (sling), and lyra. Our unique Aerial Arts program is intended to give both kids and adults the opportunity to experience aerial arts in a fun and safe environment under the supervision of our highly trained staff. Because this is such a specialized fitness program, it will take us a little longer to get equipped and prepare our instructors for January.
In this class, the aerial hammock is used like a prop to support the flyer and assist in proper pose alignment and spinal decompression. With your body weight partially (or at times fully) supported by the fabric, you have the opportunity to deeply relax and create greater flexibility and space within your body.
Classes start slowly, progressing from using the hammocks to hold a little bit of body weight to using the hammocks to hold all of your body weight. The slow progression allows your body to become accustomed to the support of the fabric and to learn to trust your own strength and balance without fear of falling allowing a more relaxing version of traditional yoga poses.
Aerial Lyra is a circular steel apparatus resembling a hula hoop suspended from the ceiling, on which circus artists may perform aerial acrobatics. In this class you will learn Aerial Hoop basics such as mounting the hoop, posing, spinning and moving within it. Your instructor will guide you through learning different hoop tricks and put them into various combinations. Each week you will be challenged to create new and different combinations all while getting a great workout and having lots of fun.
